Exploring the Depths of Our Oceans

Season Theme: SUBMERGED

The 2024-2025 FIRST® LEGO® League season challenged teams to explore our oceans and waterways. Teams investigated ocean-related issues and developed innovative solutions to protect and preserve our marine ecosystems.

Our Innovation Project: Measuring Sea Ice Thickness

Our team focused on a critical aspect of climate change research: accurately measuring sea ice thickness. This data is essential for:

  • Understanding climate change impacts
  • Predicting future sea level changes
  • Protecting Arctic ecosystems
  • Improving navigation safety in polar regions

Competition Highlights

🏆 Major Achievements

  • Vermont Montpelier Qualifier: 1st Place Winners!
  • Vermont State Championship: 2nd Place Winners!
  • Award: $1,000 advancement grant from GlobalFoundries
  • Advancement: Qualified for the Florida Sunshine Invitational in Daytona Florida
  • Competed: Finished in the top 2/3 of the Florida Sunshine Invitational in Daytona Florida

🌴 Florida Sunshine Tournament

Our team traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida to compete against teams from across the World! During the tournament, we:

  • Presented our sea ice measurement innovation project
  • Competed in robot game missions
  • Met with our partner team from Puerto Rico and compeated in a double robot match with them
  • Shared ideas with teams from different states and countries
  • Learned infromation from the other teams from around the world
  • Grew as a team developing a stronger bond

We changed the presentation to be more understandable and easy to follow, keeping the same information but changing the style to a children’s book.

Robot Design & Performance

Our robot was designed to complete ocean-themed missions including:

  • Coral reef restoration
  • Marine animal rescue
  • Ocean floor exploration
  • Pollution cleanup
  • Research vessel navigation

Looking Forward

The 2024-2025 season taught us valuable lessons about our oceans, teamwork, and innovation. As we prepare for next season, we're excited to apply what we've learned and continue making a positive impact in our community and (hopefuly) the world.
